Baobab Batik is a social enterprise based in Swaziland, Southern Africa, founded by Els Hooft in 1991. She wished to follow her passion of creating batiks, as well as offering sustainable work opportunities for women. Since then Baobab Batik has evolved into a thriving enterprise employing 35 artisans full time.

WHAT makes us a social enterprise?

-       50% of our profits are reinvested in the company and our people.

-       Founding members of Swaziland Fair Trade, operating according to the 9 Fair Trade principles.

-       We are actively working towards a living wage for our artisans.

It is important for us to create a nurturing work environment for the women of Baobab Batik; a place we can learn and develop our skills, are free to ask questions, and grow as individuals. To foster this work environment we follow our core values of transparency, accountability and TEAM. Team stands for Together Everyone Achieves More, which is the key to our success.

We also focus on LAUGHTER and LOVE; we believe every person needs a safe space where we can share stories, laugh together, and care for each other.

Our Vision is to be; A leading example, in Swaziland and beyond, of a social enterprise using thought leadership and innovation to empower women and develop the batik art form.
